Rio Tinto legal boss Debra Valentine has stepped down as the energy giant faces scrutiny over bribery claims.Valentine had previously notified the company of her intention to retire next May, but has already stepped down from the position.She was appointed group executive of legal and regulatory affairs in 2009 having joined Rio Tinto as head of legal the year before.Prior to Rio Tinto, Valentine was deputy general counsel at United Technologies Corporation and started out her private practice career at O’Melveny & Myers.The news comes as Rio Tinto launches an internal investigation into email correspondence from 2011 relating to contractual payments totalling $10.5m.
